The Ralph Lauren Graveyard.

At the risk of sounding pretentious, theres a Charles Bukowski quote i read the other day on a friends Instagram, it read - "The problem with the world is that intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence." I fully agree with this statement and see it in practise on a daily basis but there are exceptions to the rule. Ralph Lauren is no doubt an exception to Bukowski's rule. Along Ralphs quest to cover every possible base that men's and woman's fashion has to offer there will inevitably be a couple bumps. Like George Woodberry said "Defeat is not the worst of failures, Not to have tried is the worst failure" which compliments Bukowskis quote in a weird way quite nicely.

Brands come and brands go, Ralph Lauren is here to stay and if they don't get it right first time, they certainly will the second time. Here we have listed the retired lines of Ralph's fashion empire.

Polo Sport.

Polo Sport started life in 1993 and serviced the casual sports side of business. Fleece jumpers and sports jerseys were amongst the most popular, not to mention the very successful range of Polo Sport men's perfume. The accessible price tag was a big selling point for the range and in 1996 Polo Sport expanded into the woman's market. Still very sough after and one of our favourites Polo Sport unfortunately felt dated going into the 20th century and five years later production was ended and was replaced with the sports labels RLX, Tennis and Golf giving pin point definition to the specific sports needs. Polo Sport Perfume still lives on specific to the fragrances range.

Polo Jeans Co.

Polo Jeans made classic all American denim related product and general sports/leisure wear. Staple denim pieces and Chinese/Indian production made this line of Polo accessible to every one. The line typically targeted the high street customer with good value for money denim and sportswear. The line lost steam and a place in the market and in 2006 was retired from the Ralph Lauren empire.
The line was then re-launched in 2009 for European only distribution for concessions stores, web stores and department stores only. The replacement line to Polo jeans is one of the latest to come from RL and named 'Denim Supply Co'.

Blue Label.

Blue Label is another recent brand to be put on Ralph Lauren's back burner, despite creating some very nice tailored clothing, sports wear, accessories and leather goods, the Blue Label didn't quite make the cut. The Blue label how ever still continues solely in the woman's department and continues to be a key collection. The Blue label lived a  relatively short life starting only in 2002 and ending a couple of years ago for men.

So theres a few of Ralph's brands to have ended up in the RL Grave yard. That's not the all of them though and certainly not the end. Theres plenty more trial and error to be had in the RL camp.
